Do you ever wonder how Facebook measures the popluarity of applications?
There are bulk of applications hosted via FB API then how Facebook ranks these Apps? In fact, recently Facebook has updated their Application Directory Matrix for the popularity measurement criteria to provide more realistic idea about all these apps.
If you have your own application then you must have a question to measure the popularity accuretly. Many FB developers had raised concerns for the same and FB Development Team is working out to provide better result in this aspect.
Here are the criteria considered by Facebook it self to measure the popularity of the application:
1) Engagement of number of MONTHLY active users.
Previously it was DAILY active users which is now changed to MONTHLY active users for applications.
2) FB will be providing a 7 Days and 30 Days matrics which will allow to track the application usage on the weekly and monthly basis. It carreis better sense then the previous daily usage measurement.
Everyday is a different trend on Internet so the weekly and monthly metrics is a wise step by Facebook.
As per the Official Information provided by Facebook,
The new metrics we’re tracking on a weekly and monthly basis include:
- Number of canvas page views (including the number of unique viewers)
- Number of API calls (including the number of unique users on whose behalf your application made the calls)
- Number of active users for the past week and the past month
- Average HTTP request and FBML render times for canvas pages
Well these metrics are still under the Developer’s Area and will be available publicly soon!
Apart from these metrics, FacebookAppCreation has found more intresting metrics to provide their clients which really adds more sense of User Tracking and Cultrual Understanding.
FacebookAppCreation can develop a utility for your existing or new apps with the following metrics,
1) Number of Installs of an application. This should give you a direct idea about how well your app is doing overall.
2) Number of Installs per week, per month.
If you are rolling any campaign then this should provide you better idea about the result and effect..
This should also provide you the idea about the user rush on your application installation by season.
3) Demographic Installs
Which City, State, Country, Continent users has installed more? This is a vital stastics in case you would like to focus on a specific region rather a blankat marketing of your app / product.
There are few more metrics we can offer to our clients based on their business and requirements. I firmly believe that unless you know how popular your application is, it is difficult to monetize the Social Network Advantage!
